Potato is one of the principal cash crops in Himachal Pradesh, India. The climatic conditions in many parts of the state offer excellent opportunity for producing both disease-free quality seed and table potato. It is very popular due to its off-season nature and is sold in various parts of the country as Pahari aloo that fetches premium price in the market as it is fresh and does not have sweet taste like the cold stored potatoes. Kangra region is known as quality potato production zone and has been important source of raw material among potato processors in North-Western India for a long time. This importance is not due to the quantum of supply but due to the fact that processing quality potato is scarce during May to September month in the country. This book mainly covers the socioeconomic status of farmers, economics of potato production and marketing of potato. The subject matter has been presented in simple language. We hope that this compelling book be widely available to students, scientists, researcher, policy makers, staff of agricultural economics across the country so as to enrich their knowledge about potato farming.
