At present, the North Ratnagiri district has very few industries that influence the marine flora and fauna. One of them is Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt. Ltd. located near Dabhol, and another O. P. Jindal's JSW Power project at Jaigad near Hedavi. Many more industries, particularly in power sector are likely to be established along the coast of Ratnagiri district. These industries may have impact on the algal flora of this coast.

Dr. Rajendra A. Shevde is presently working as HOD & Assistant Professor in Botany at Arts, Commerce and Science College, Lanja, Ratnagiri. He is experienced in Ecological studies, Bio-diversity Parks, EIA, LCA, EMS. He is a member of ATBS (Association of Teachers in Biological Science), Indian Botanical Society, BNHS, Secretory SEBC, Ratnagiri.
