East Alton's incorporation in 1893 was just four years before this country's first economic depression, the Depression of 1897. Overcoming economic challenges and fostering growth has enabled the village not only to survive but also to succeed.

Jason D. Bricker works for a school district in St. Charles, Missouri, and has been interested in history since junior high school when Mr. Rosenthal, his history teacher, sparked Jason's interest. Judith M. Richie is retired from the Alton Community School District and is interested in East Alton's rich history. She and Jason are both board members of the East Alton Public Library District and members of the East Alton Historical Museum.
