A drive shaft is basically a mechanical component which transmits torque and rotation, and is used to connect other mechanical components of a drive train which cannot be connected in a direct manner due to the distance or with other reason i.e., the need for allowing the relative movement between them. A drive shaft is basically a mechanical component which transmits torque and rotation, and is used to connect other mechanical components of a drive train which cannot be connected in a direct manner due to the distance or with other reason i.e., the need for allowing the relative movement between them. Due to torque carriers, drive shafts will be subjected to torsion and shear stress, which is equivalent to the difference between the input torque and the load. Hence drive shaft must, therefore, be strong enough to withstand the stress, while avoiding too much additional weight as that would, in turn, increase their inertia. The project deals with the replacement of conventional drive shaft of steel material with high strength carbon composites. Steel drive shaft is designed using CAD software for the purpose of static, buckling and modal analysis of both drive shaft using ANSYS software. The design optimization was done at the end which showed significant potential improvement inthe performance of the drive shaft. In the current work, an attempt has been made to estimate the deflection, stresses, and natural frequencies under subjected loads.
