So far as Discourse particles or Topic and Focus particles are concerned a lot of work has been done for different languages but for Meeteilon there has been no relevant work in this area so far. This book is an attempt to look at some of the discourse particles in Meeteilon, and is restricted mainly to the syntax of topic/focus constructions in Meeteilon. Meeteilon is an SOV language of the Tibeto-Burman family which is spoken in Manipur, a north eastern part of India. It has been recognized in the 8th scheduled language since Aug 20, 1993. There has been very little discussions on theoretical issues and I have tried to provide factual information about the structure of this language with regards to Topic and Focus particles, with examples illustrating each statement. The examples (mostly sentences) are also provided with grammatical and free translations, making it easy to understand. It is hoped that this attempt to provide a comprehensive work on topic and focus particles in Meeteilon would be made use of by researchers working on Tibeto-Burman linguistics and thereby helping us to achieve a greater understanding of this fascinating language.
