Can you imagine your child enjoying discipline? It can be done! There's a way to use discipline to instruct rather than punish your child. Punishments, especially spanking, slapping, restricting privileges and taking things away, inevitably lead your child to anger or depression - both of which make it more difficult to gain control. Anger provokes defiance and depression curbs motivation. As a Behavioral-Developmental Pediatrician currently practicing Child Psychiatry in Southwest Florida, I've taught parents how to use discipline to guide their children away from misbehavior, motivate them to embrace right behavior and actually enjoy the process. The secret to effective and enjoyable discipline for your child is to offer affection as a reward for right behavior. When affection is doled out carefully and thoughtfully, it becomes ever more valuable and attractive as an inducement to right behavior.
Autorenporträt
Dr. Alan Davick, a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician, has taught parents and professional colleagues how to recognize and manage complex misbehavior in children for 40 years. Trained at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Dr. Davick has maintained clinical practice throughout those years. He has, as a Major in the Army Medical Corps, served as Pediatrician-in-Chief at Tuttle Army Health Clinic, Savannah GA and later, while engaged in private Pediatric practice, as Behavioral- Developmental Consultant to the Chatsworth School for Exceptional Children, in Baltimore County, MD. Dr. Davick has focused his knowledge and experience on separating innate conditions like ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delay and Epilepsy, masquerading as willful misbehavior, from truly willful misconduct, like Oppositional-Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorders. In this book, Dr. Davick teaches you to recognize and ignore merely annoying misbehavior, how to STOP life-endangering misbehavior and how to control willful misbehavior with effective discipline. If you're a parent, you'll learn how to use powerful discipline without going to jail. Dr. Davick lives with his wife, Barbara, in Cape Coral, FL.
