This book shows the different linguistic codes spoken by Italo - Costa Rican people of three different generations in the valley of San Vito de Coto Brus in the south of Costa Rica, in the present. It also deals with sociolinguistic and historical factors which have determined the linguistic identity of this community in this Central American country.The results obtained in a mixed methodology show interesting results in the first generation who reported the use of standard Italian, Italian Dialect, and Costa Rican Spanish in the first generation;Standard Italian, Costa Rican Spanish but the complete absence of Italian Dialect in the second generation.Costa Rican Spanish was the only code spoken in the third generation.This data collected shows also similar patterns in other parts of the world such as Australia where the italian emigration is recent.
Autorenporträt
The author has a Phd in Theoretical Linguistics and Research obtained in 2013 in the Università degli studi di Pavia, Italy. He has been professor in different schools and Universities both in Costa Rica and in the United States during the last 25 years. Currently, he is the coordinator of English Teaching school at the University of Costa Rica.
