Georg Dehio (1850-1932) wechselte Anfang der 1870er Jahre nach dem Studium der Geschichte bei Waitz und Sybel in Göttingen und Bonn zur Kunstgeschichte über. Er war Privatdozent in München und später Ordinarius in Königsberg und bis 1918 in Straßburg. In seinen letzten Tübinger Lebensjahren (ausschließlich gewidmet der 'Geschichte der Deutschen Kunst') wurden ihm zahlreiche hohe Ehrungen zuteil.
