The proceedings were based on the three-volume edition of the main directives of this pontificate by Silvano Giordano published in 2003. Alongside more general issues (implementation of the reforms adopted at the Council of Trent, jurisdiction, military matters, the relationship between micro- and macro-politics), there is also discussion of the (confessional) political contacts between Rome and the main territories of the orbis catholicus (legations, nunciatures), including those outside Europe.
Der Sammelband enthält die Beiträge eines internationalen Kolloquiums des DHI Rom von 2005 zu den internationalen Beziehungen der römischen Kurie unter Paul V. Borghese auf der Grundlage der 2003 erschienenen dreibändigen Edition der päpstlichen Hauptinstruktionen dieses Pontifikats von Silvano Giordano. Neben allgemeinen Fragestellungen (Umsetzung der Reformen des Konzils von Trient, Jurisdiktion, Militärwesen, Verhältnis von Mikro- und Makropolitik) werden die (konfessions-)politischen Kontakte zwischen Rom und den wichtigsten Territorien des orbis catholicus (Legationen, Nuntiaturen) erörtert, wobei auch der außereuropäische Raum mit in die Betrachtung einbezogen wird.
