Don Haworth was educated at Burnley Grammar School, served in the Royal Air Force and worked as Journalist for newspapers, news agencies and radio in several parts of the world. He joined the BBC as a television news reporter, worked on Tonight and Panorama and then became a documentary producer in Manchester. His best known film, Fred Dibnah, Steeplejack won in 1980 the British Academy Award for documentary and the John Grierson Award for the year's best film. His work as a playwright has been primarily for radio. The plays have been broadcast in many countries and have won five national and international awards in the past fifteen years. Bright Morning is a sequel to his first volume of childhood memories, Figures in a Bygone Landscape, which won the Portico Prize in 1986. Don Haworth died in 2007.
