Soil is extremely important to the construction industry, because as well as being a natural building material, it is also the support for any civil work. Therefore, in order to develop civil projects that guarantee safety, stability and economy, it is necessary to know the mechanical characteristics of the soils that will support the buildings. Among the mechanical properties of soils, compressibility is one of the most important, as it estimates the behavior of soils when subjected to stresses. In this context, the aim of this study was to determine and analyze the compressibility parameters of the Argissolo and Latossolo present in the city of Mossoró-RN, both from the Barreiras Formation. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the Latosol has the best characteristics to be used as a support material for civil works in the city of Mossoró-RN.
