Chilala Kakoma Bowa, épouse et mère de deux enfants, poursuit des études de troisième cycle à l'université de Johannesburg. Elle est titulaire d'une licence en génie électrique et d'une maîtrise en génie mécanique (planification énergétique et exploitation des systèmes électriques), obtenues respectivement à l'université de Zambie (UNZA) et à l'université de Katmandou (UK) au Népal.
