The Covenant University Virtual Laboratory (CUVLAB) project was conceived as a response to the need for mobile simulated laboratories to supplement hardware and software laboratory sessions in undergraduate engineering courses. Background studies conducted on virtual and remote laboratories and the motivation for this project are presented. In addition, current challenges facing practical engineering education especially in developing countries are explored. The aim and objectives of the project are stated in addition to the methodology employed in developing the prototype mobile app. The contributions of this work are also stated in this introductory chapter

J.O. Onaolapo is an alumnus of Covenant University. He earned a B.Eng. (cum laude) and M.Eng (distinction) computer Engineering in 2009 and 2013 respectively. He is a Research Fellow in the Dept. of Electrical and Info. Engineering of Covenant University. He is a recipient of the prestigious presidential 'PRESSID' scholarship.
