By street protests, they even pressured political populist elites in power to abandon radical undemocratic regime changes. Romania managed therefore to maintain its European course and to avoid serious democratic backsliding.

Dragoș Dragoman teaches and researches in the area of political sociology at the Departement of Political Science, University 'Lucian Blaga' of Sibiu, Romania. His research interests include social capital, democratization, ethnic relations and party politics.
