By re-engaging with such canonical theorists of biopolitics as Giorgio Agamben and Roberto Esposito, and introducing new philosophical approaches into the discussion - including Jean-Luc Nancy, Alain Badiou and Claude Lefort - the book develops a vision of democratic biopolitics as the coexistence of diverse forms of life based on their reciprocal recognition as free, equal and in common. Prozorov demonstrates the feasibility of this vision by addressing its correlates in our lived experience and argues for its sustainability by elucidating the pleasure involved in the freeform way of living that democracy makes possible. Sergei Prozorov is Professor of Political Science at the University of Jyväskylä. He is the author of eight previous books, including Agamben and Politics (2014) and Biopolitics of Stalinism (2016). His research interests include political philosophy, theories of democracy and totalitarianism, biopolitics and governance.

Sergei Prozorov is Professor of Political Science at the University of Jyväskylä. He is the author of books including The Biopolitics of Stalinism (2016) and Agamben and Politics (2014), also published by Edinburgh University Press. He has published over 30 articles in major international journals. His research interests include political philosophy, theories of democracy and totalitarianism, biopolitics and governance.
