Recognising and strictly dealing with the safety problems caused by immigration are vital preconditions for keeping urban areas liveable and city centres (as icons of city identity) convivial. A successful management of these problems could then be used as strategy for city competition.

Dr. Tom Kauko's academic career spans over two decades and covers the fields of real estate, planning and urban affairs. He has worked for Delft University of Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Oxford Brookes University, University of Portsmouth and Liverpool John Moores University. He has over 80 scientific publications.
