Imagine yourself being stalked by a cold-blooded killer, a predator who wants to destroy the minds of you and the woman you love - - before he kills both of you! Pat Patton is an attorney who recently passed the Bar. His next hurdle is to set up a law practice but he soon realizes he has no idea what he is doing. A somewhat immature Pat loves pranks, beer, and women, but has to grow up - - fast. Good luck comes when he leases office space with an established attorney willing to help him but bad luck comes when he represents the ex-wife of a cold-blooded killer in an adoption case. A simple adoption turns into a nightmare when Skinny, the imprisoned psychopathic legal father, finds out Pat represents his ex-wife and new husband in the adoption of his children. He believes they are stealing his kids and vows to break out of prison and kill all three of them - -slowly! As Pat finds out, psychopaths are very hard to fight. He is at a decided disadvantage as he might hesitate before pulling the trigger; a psychopath would not. Pat has to quickly learn the world of judges and prosecutors as he juggles misdemeanors as well as serious but often humorous felony cases based on real situations of former lawyer and author Roger Fenton. Court room and prison scenes are so real you will think you are there. As he travels the world of court room drama, motorcycles, cars, and ultralight airplanes, we see two people who have a profound influence on his life: Shirley, the woman who wants to marry him and Skinny, the man who wants to kill him. You will get quickly involved in the suspense of this novel, as you learn the court system along with Pat, and be warmed by a tender love story. You will not want to stop reading this page turner.
Autorenporträt
For 26 years, the author had a law practice. He became an attorney, at age 36, the hard way, by working his way through law school while holding down a full-time job as an avionics technician and working part time in a motorcycle shop. Back in 1980's Georgia, most attorneys got their start by signing up to represent individuals on the indigent list. Our Constitution states that no one who is charged with a crime and faces substantial jail time will be denied an attorney. If the accused cannot afford an attorney the state will provide legal representation. Except for large cities, public defenders were almost unheard of back then, so legal representation came from members of the Bar. The author represented well over a hundred criminal defendants during his career, while also handling adoptions, divorces, bankruptcies, wills, personal injury, and various other cases. Prior to becoming an attorney, he was a farmer, a store clerk, part owner of an automobile salvage yard, a draftsman, an electronics technician, a motorcycle mechanic, a professional welder, a board operator at a TV station, a customer relations representative for a photocopy company, and a management trainee for a well-known insurance company. Hobbies have included hunting, boating, flying ultralight airplanes, roller and ice skating, motorcycles, bowling, antique automobiles, scuba diving, weight lifting, jogging, soft ball, hypnosis, and traveling. The author has written numerous newspaper articles, been published nationally, and has written several novels. With the exception of a few humorous scenes, the author strived to make prison and the practice of law as realistic as possible. Now retired, he lives on a lake in Georgia.
