Autorenporträt
Ferdinand Schmatz wurde am 3. Februar 1953 in Korneuburg/Niederösterreich geboren. 1972 begann er sein Studium der Germanistik, Geschichte und Philosophie an der Universität Wien, das er 1982 mit Promotion abschloss. Von 1983 bis 1985 war er Lektor an der Nihon University in Tokio, von 1986 bis 1989 folgte ein Lehrauftrag an der Hochschule für industrielle und künstlerische Gestaltung in Linz. Schmatz ist Fachberater des Killy-Literaturlexikons für österreichische Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts. 1989 bis 1992 übernahm er Lehraufträge an der Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Wien über "Schrift und Buch" sowie über "Poetik und Kunst im 20. Jahrhundert". 1992 erhielt er eine Gastprofessur für "Freie Graphik und interdisziplinäre Kunst" an der Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst. 1993 betreute er das Autorenlabor in der Alten Schmiede in Wien. Der in Wien lebende Lyriker erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter 2004 den Georg-Trakl-Preis für Lyrik und 2006 den H.C. Artmann-Preis der S
