The colonization of cyberspace has been accompanied by the expected flood of travelogues and theme-park literature. The urgent need for a reflective, critical perspective is met by this volume of essays, contributed by authors from many countries and with a variety of viewpoints. The unifying theme is awareness of the complexity and unpredictability of the evoution of cyberspace, where radical innovations in technique and consciousness will occur within a framework of ongoing relations of power and domination.
