In this book attempts have been made to show that Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore had thought of the basic questions of culture studies in the 19th century, long before the tide of culture studies swept the European nations. This book will also try to break away the apparent mis-conception that there existed a conflict between the two great contemporaries. Attempts have been made to show that there were a number of similarities in their thoughts regarding education and religion. Both of them had dreamt of a new India that would arise through the development of culture which would take place through the development of religious, social, and educational reforms of the then India. The harmonious blending of the social, educational, and religious philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and the educational and religious philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore would give birth to a new India which would be far better than the glorious India of the past. Both of them believed that society, religion, and education are different facades of culture and are embedded in the concept of Indian culture.
