Content-based Instruction has been studied worldwide for more than three decades. It is even more flourishing recent years when ESP (English for Special purposes), EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and LSP (Language for Special Purposes) have been gathering the momentum in foreign language or second language education. However, it is a pity that an updated knowledge framework has not been constructed for pre-service and in-service educators to refer to in their study, teaching and research. After thorough analysis and systematical synthesis, a conceptual framework about Content-based Instruction emerged as presented in this book. The framework was constructed by the following aspects: philosophical foundations, models, approaches, principles and methodologies, educational goals, critical and academic speaking and writing, critical listening and reading, syllabus design and textbook writing, language assessment, research approaches and methodologies. Books on pedagogy of foreign language teaching used to provide theories and practices without the bridge to link them. That's why in this book the research approaches and methodologies were included.
