This book, lays a foundation on understanding of vulnerability as a root of disasters in communities. The author notes that flood disasters occur due to socio-economic stresses like poverty, weak education, ill-preparedness for disasters, weak infrastructure and limited financial resources for implementation of disaster risk reduction activities. Johnstone Andrea has BA & MA in Geography and Environmental Management. He is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geography University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is specialized on Environmental Disaster Management and currently is teaching courses on Disasters and has done a wide range of researches and outreach services in Tanzania.
