Despite the fact that productivity or creativity is one of the inalienable properties of language, there always is, and to the largest degree, one appropriate way of meaning what we say and saying what we mean. When you want to say "I love you", say 'I love you' not "I cherish you", nor " you, I love". Communicative Meaning refers to the intention borne by a chosen linguistic form that another/alternative form may not bear. Unlike spoken language which is aided by visual or non-verbal cues, written language entirely lies on word choice, syntactic choice, TAM( Tense/Aspect/Mood/Modality) choice, punctuation and suchlike. It is the reason different versions of the English translation of the Bible, for example, end up conveying a completely different message from each other: did, for instance, Jesus say, "I am the door"(RSV), or " I am the gate"( NIV)?
