Juan Tomás Frutos é licenciado e doutorado em Jornalismo, bem como doutorado em Pedagogia. É titular de vários doutoramentos honorários, incluindo um em vitimologia para a sua análise da denúncia de crimes. Tem estudado e ensinado em universidades espanholas e latino-americanas.
