Oceans are provided with immense treasure, thus open many areas of multidisciplinary work. Marine microbe communities can evolve rapidly in response to environmental shifts and could be used as indicators of ocean change. Marine fungi have proved to be a rich source of new biological natural products. Because of their characteristic properties with reference to temperature, nutrients, competition and salinity, they have developed specific secondary metabolic pathways compared with terrestrial. Marine filamentous fungi have proved to possess tremendous potential as a source of new medicines even at low concentrations of their secondary metabolites, as some recent studies prove too. Marine-derived fungi are considered to be the potential sources for new and biologically active secondary metabolites which have roles in a range of cellular processes such as transcription, development and intercellular communication. The work includes results from isolating and characterizing of marine fungus for the production of commercially important resources. For this marine sample were collected from the Veli coast Thiruvananthapuram.
