There are yet those who feel that we have always had good political ideologies, in the midst of fantastic economic policies, but that our challenge consists in the absence of the political will to implement these fantastic policies and ideologies. For yet another group,our problem consists in the fact that the system we run encourages corruption, and so on. In this work, however, it is argued that beyond any of the causes identified by others, it is the lack of civility on the part of many Nigerians that is largely responsible for our problem; and as a logical follow up to that, that to get out of the predicament, we need to cultivate the ideal of civility

Tunde Akande is a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, University of Abuja. He is currently a doctoral student of Philosophy at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is from Igarra, in Edo state of Nigeria. He is married to Lynda Avovome Akande. They are blessed with three children: Fortune (Enwuoro),Lawson Jr(Omeyimi),and Dandy(Ubani)
