The book is the final report for the Project Le Nationalisme Turc Face à l'Europe that was realized between 1998 and 2000 by the Institut der Deutschen Morgenländischen Gesellschaft and the Institut Francais d'Études Anatoliennes in Istanbul. The studies in the volume examine civil society discourses in particular political settings and within professional, gender and cultural non-governmental organizations in Turkey.
