El Dr. Okonda es un cristiano practicante y un erudito religioso. Ha enseñado Biblia, Teología y Religión en la Escuela Internacional de Teología Kima, la Universidad Global, la Universidad del Monte Kenia y la Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnología Masinde Muliro. Actualmente trabaja en el Departamento de Educación de la Iglesia de Dios en África Oriental (Kenia).
