The Convention on the Rights of the Child is a convention which was accepted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 20 November 1989 and brought into force on 2 September 1990. The implementation of the "Child Friendly City" is regarded as an important step towards putting the practice the UNICEF's Convention on the rights of the child. In this direction, Çilimli Municipality has developed the "Child Friendly City" strategy in cooperation with UNICEF and has established the appropriate urban policy and prepared the action plan which is necessary for putting these policies into practice. The budgeting of the plans, the monitoring of the applications and the determination of appropriate methods for evaluating the effects are carried out within the "Child Friendly City" strategy. The purpose of this study is to elaborate the definition of the Child Friendly City concept, its description, briefly its developmental process, and in particular the phases of its implementation in Çilimli District.
