Continuing the tradition of the Advances in Chemical Physics series, Volume 101: Chemical Reactions and Their Control on the Femtosecond Time Scale details the extraordinary findings reported at the XXth Solvay Conference on Chemistry, held at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, from November 28 to December 2, 1995. This new volume discusses the remarkable opportunities afforded by the femtosecond laser, focusing on the host of phenomena this laser has made it possible to observe. PIERRE GASPARD is a permanent scientific researcher at the National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS Belgium) at the Center for Nonlinear Phenomena and Complex Systems of the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. A specialist in classical and quantum dynamical systems theory, he has made several contributions to the semiclassical theory of intramolecular and reaction dynamics as well as to the control of chemical reactions, in collaboration with Prof. S. A. Rice. IRENE BURGHARDT received her PhD. in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy in 1992 from the Universite de Lausanne, Switzerland, under the supervision of Prof. G. Bodenhausen.
