Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most important crop at the global level, as it is the staple food for more than two fifths of the world's population. The total cropped area of Bangladesh is 33422 thousand acres of which 26130 thousand acres are used for rice cultivation and the production of rice is 28931 thousand metric tons. Demand for aromatic rice in recent years has increased to a great extent for both internal consumption and export. Bangladesh imports around 50 thousand tons of aromatic rice each year from neighboring countries. It observed that the yield of aromatic rice is lower(1-2t/ha) but its higher price and low cost of cultivation generated higher profit margins compared to other varieties grown in the area. Therefore, this book provides a new metric of success for developing short duration high yielding aromatic rice varieties. Here I have selected some exotic rice lines that are early maturing as well as high yielding. The analysis will be helpful for young researcher and plant breeder to know the morphological and molecular variation and to find out the early maturing lines. Moreover, this book will be helpful to professionals who are directly related to plant Breeding.
