This book is concerned with the issue of displacement and resettlement in a range of contexts. The first part of the book begins with providing the definitions about involuntary population displacement and resettlement. Different scholars have defined it in different ways and there is no consensus among scholars and practitioners on the concepts that would integrate the various aspects and processes of displacement and resettlement. The book also addresses the different criteria considered in the classifications of displacement and resettlement. Currently, involuntary displacement and resettlement is classified into three typologies which are based on the sets of causal agents. The third part of the book also deals with the general trends of involuntary population displacement in general and the developing countries in particular. The issue of population displacement is a growing problem that can be caused by conflicts, disasters, or development programs or projects.
