Almudena Grandes, geboren 1960, begann nach dem Studium zu schreiben. 1989 wurde sie mit ihrem Roman "Lul " über Nacht berühmt. Bisher in zwanzig Sprachen übersetzt, erreichte "Lul " eine Gesamtauflage von über einer Million Exemplaren und wurde erfolgreich verfilmt. Auch mit dem Roman "Malena" rückte Almudena Grandes 1996 an die Spitze der internationalen Bestsellerlisten. Sie zählt zu den großen spanischen Gegenwartsautorinnen und lebt in Madrid.
