They are intensely evocative, vivid, sharply sensuous and full of things . . . not just the things of long-ago dreich, dear, fundamental Aberdeen, nor the London of either 1941 Selfridge-sophistication or of a rainy night now . . . but here is the thing: the living here-and-now meaning of such memories and moments.
