Autorenporträt
Jim Wade Smith, was born and raised in the Appalachian, (pronounced: app ah lay chan) mountains of North Carolina. Growing up under Mount Mitchell and near Grandfather Mountain, the family was poor and lived in a shack built of sawmill planks. A Diphtheria survivor, Jim, at the age of four, miraculously survived the old county doctor's, "Kill or Cure shot." This was actual words the doctor used for the description of the medicine that he administered. At the time there was no cure for the illness and the medicine was a long shot whether it would help him recover. Over the years of his life Jim played sports such as bowling, tennis, fishing and baseball. He played minor league baseball so well that he garnered a contract offer for the Brooklyn Dodgers but being only 19, he was too young to sign the contract. He had to be 21 years of age. His father refused to sign, stating, "I need you here, boy." His father was illiterate and could not read the contract himself. Jim has written occasionally over his life time. He is the author and illustrator of his own comic series called, 'Ol Cavey', written and drawn while he was working third shift as a security guard was a hit with his family and co workers. One western novel he wrote, and entered into the Louis L'amour book competition placed but the book wasn't ever published. This novel, 'Call of the Dove', was written in the 1990's and again however, he had not seriously perused getting it published until now. At the young age of 74, Jim is a retired brick mason. He still is a dead eye deer hunter. You can find him often, studying his King James Bible, just beginning to write up his own mountain short stories and excerpts, as well as having read most of the books in the local library. He is an ordained licensed minister, married to his wife of 53 years, Trina McKinney Smith, grandfather and now a great granddad! The history of America is also one of his passions. Someone asked him what did he pray for the most? With tear filled, gentle, caring eyes he answered, "The little children of the world"
