I invite you to reflect on the need to recognize respiratory problems in the Brazilian population. Smokers and ex-smokers ignore relevant symptoms such as cough and dyspnea, which makes it worryingly difficult to access a diagnosis and integrate into support and rehabilitation programs. I invite you to reflect on the need to recognize respiratory problems in the Brazilian population. Smokers and ex-smokers ignore relevant symptoms such as cough and dyspnea, which makes it worryingly difficult to access a diagnosis and integrate into support and rehabilitation programs. New instruments are therefore being sought to monitor the health-related quality of life of these patients, as well as the impact on their daily activities. The Breathing Problems Questionnaire (BPQ) is a quality of life (QoL) questionnaire specific to chronic lung diseases, developed from the experiences of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The higher the score on the BPQ, the greater the impact of respiratory problems on quality of life. In this book, I propose adapting the BPQ to Brazilian culture and evaluating its reproducibility in patients with COPD. Once the Brazilian version of the questionnaire is reproducible in Brazil, we have yet another quick and easy tool for identifying lung alterations, which, the sooner they are noticed and diagnosed, allow for early treatment and a positive impact. Happy reading!
