Composer Yang Jing is also an internationally renowned pipa soloist. Rooted in the millennia-old tradition of Chinese music, she builds on a vast amalgam of musical history. The result is sometimes musical poetry, sometimes powerful unheard-of sounds. YANG Jing's technical and musical inventions on the pipa bear witness to her constant expansion of the world of harmony. She was born on the south bank of the Yellow River in December 1963. She began her musical training at the age of 6, playing the pipa, sometimes called the Chinese Lute. She writes music for western symphony orchestras, choirs, and ensembles as well as music for formations with traditional Chinese instruments. Her works have been performed in music festivals and concert tours in Europe, China, Japan, the USA, and Canada. She based her home in central Switzerland.
