Many others set up small businesses servicing the communities that were developing all over the province. As Chinese communities, known as Chinatowns, became established more Chinese made the journey to Canada to join their family members. The immigrants faced racial prejudice and discriminatory immigration policies. The government restrictions in immigration were lifted in 1947 but the widespread racism continued for decades. Despite the challenges and obstacles, the Chinese settlers were determined to succeed in their new country. Autorenporträt
Lily Chow was born in Malaysia, but has lived in Canada since the mid-sixties. She has taught in the Prince George School District and at the University of British Columbia. She now devotes her time to research and writing. Her first book, 'Sojourners in the North', won the Jeanne Clark Local History Award and is used as a textbook in many colleges and universities. 'Chasing Their Dreams' is her second book.
