Autorenporträt
My mother - the woman who named me Alexander and then promptly started calling me A.J. - has been asking me to write a children's book since I was, myself, a child. I always meant to do it, but somehow the idea got lost and meandered in circles for a couple decades. Years passed, and while living far from my home state of Montana in a little place called Philadelphia, this life saw fit to bless me with a beautiful wife and a precocious daughter. Loving them did something to my insides, something akin to what the sun does to the sky as it rises. One morning my daughter smiled at me and got me to do what neither I nor my mother could make me do for so long. With a happy heart I sat down and wrote her a book. I asked my sister (who is, officially, a nurse) to illustrate it, and she made magic happen. My mother learned how to publish. And here we are, with paper pages to turn and tickle. I wrote this book because it's how I feel. I wrote it so that every night I could remind my girls that they are loved to bits, and to pieces.
