Love a drunk or an addict? Learn to love safely and live peacefully. Read how a "low bottom" codependent emerged from chaos, confusion, and isolation. Understand the Twelve Steps deeply, one by one. Learn where the Twelve Step path to recovery leads, where Al-Anon and A.A. diverge, and how the Steps provide any thoughtful seeker with the tools to live a good life. The author added an important daily meditation book to the Twelve Step literature with Bird Feet In Concrete; now, he brings the same sharp intellect, good humor, and deep experience to his story and recovery. This personal recovery book thoughtfully weaves science, philosophy, religion, Al-Anon, and Twelve Step lore, along with the author's personal experiences and quirky observations. The result is engaging and thought-provoking, ranging from inspiring to heartbreaking to comic. Author's note: This book tells my story and has a broader purpose. I think it's especially useful to folks who want to understand the steps and how they can lead to a better life. Newcomers to Al-Anon will discover how the bits and pieces of program wisdom fit together. Experienced members may find it useful in step studies and as food for thought in meetings. The purpose is to "carry the message." If you like the book, pass it on. Even if you don't find it helpful, someone else may; just leave it on the chair after the next meeting.
Autorenporträt
Bruce Hasenyager is a recovering codependent and a long time Al-Anon member. Son of a more-or-less functioning alcoholic father and a codependent mother, he has lived more than fifty turbulent years with alcoholics who never made it to recovery. He was formally educated in mathematics and engineering, was a pioneer in information technology, and was a successful business executive, entrepreneur, and educator. Friends often remark on his seemingly bottomless trove of unusual knowledge and his penchant for puns, wordplay, and the occasional original epigram. He writes to share his experience, strength, and hope with women and men who seek relief in Al-Anon and the Twelve Steps. With grown children in a peaceful retirement, he has a unique perspective on how to use the Twelve Steps as the way to a good life.
