The disposal of effluents is main environmental problems related distillery industry, wastewater contains huge quantity of dissolved organic matter, heavy metals, dyes etc, along with other pollutants. These discharge into water bodies, somber the aquatic life in consonance with decrease in quality of water and irrigation land. Distilleries are listed at the top of Red Category industries having high polluting potential. Many approaches have been employed for the treatment of wastewater is insufficient to treat these melanoidin containing wastewater and not able to achive the standard set by goverment. Therefore, environmental biotechnology is dominated by attempts to find ways of dealing with growing industrialization and the problems it causes, such as production of toxic wastewaters. Amongst solutions, bioremediation is the most popular. It encompasses all processes that occur in order to transform the environment altered by contaminants back to its original state. Therefore, it refers to the productive use of microorganisms to remove/detoxify pollutants. This work is based on bioremediation, by which effluent can be treated and reach the standard set by goverment for discharge.
