His career was interrupted by the US Army draft for two years during the Cold War as described in my earlier book. He and his wife Barbara took over fifty trips both in and out of the US. The urge to share our experiences led to my writing "Beyond the Horizon." about the foreign trips and our life in the Army and what was then West Germany.
