Self-regulation is one's ability to control emotions and reactions to a given situation. Many have struggled with a variety of emotions over the past two years as we have navigated unprecedented times and a global pandemic. Parents and children alike might experience anxiety surrounding returning to school. What will it look like? Will it be safe? Will my child be able to learn? Will they be able to play with friends? Best School Year helps to reduce fear or anxiety related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the changes that will impact a familiar environment: school. It encourages parents to use co-regulation to help children focus on what they can control, what will stay the same, and how to use positive self-talk. It also focuses on the resilience of a child, showcasing how children can find joy and excitement in difficult situations. With patience, love and precautions your child can and will have an amazing school year, maybe even the best school year yet!
Autorenporträt
Megan Hoffman is a pediatric occupation therapist and owner of Light of mine Pediatric and Adolescent Therapy Services. She has experience working with children and families from ages 3-18 years with self-regulation, sensory processing, and developmental skills. Megan is a first time-author with hopes of helping parents and children navigate the ever changing world around us and the emotions that come along with it. As a first time mother during the 2020 government shut down, Megan personally experienced anxiety for the first time. She began thinking about returning to work and the safety of her students and her newborn son, Henry. As she began to process her emotions, she began to write. Megan frequently uses social stories in her practice and has seen first hand how they can help children and families process social emotional situations and responses. Best School Year Yet helped Megan as she prepared to enter into a new school year and she hopes that it will do the same for you and your family.
