Worldwide, invasive cervical cancer is the second most common female malignancy after breast cancer. Histopathological examination of biopsies from cervical lesions and hysterectomy specimens is the gold standard in their diagnosis. The facts in this book are based upon a study conducted at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute and Hospital, Pondicherry India, a rural tertiary care hospital with an annual vol ume of above 1, 00,000 patients. This study comprised of more than 100 Patients of benign and malignant lesions of the cervix (cervical biopsies/ hysterectomy specimens) over a period of two years from May 2010 to May 2012 in the Department of Pathology.

The author has done his MD pathology from MGMC&RI, Pondicherry, India and is presently working as an assistant professor in the department of pathology DY Patil medical college and research centre, Pune, India. He is also a member of Indian academy of pathology & microbiology (IAPM) and Indian society of colposcopy and cervical pathology(ISCCP).
