Brethren, the purpose of this book is to set the church (Evangelicals) straight on the subject of the timing of Christ's Second Coming and the Rapture of the church. Jesus himself stated that timing in Matthew 24:29-30 as follows: "Immediately after the tribulation...they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." Apostle Paul also depicts the Second Coming of Christ and the Rapture (gathering together) of the church as one event happening at the same time. Around the 1830's the Plymouth Brethren, which included notables such as Dr. C.I. Scofield and Dr. John Darby, concocted a doctrine that says that Jesus will return to the midair and rapture the church to heaven for seven years before the great tribulation. Many Evangelicals teach this error today. Other "raptures" in the Bible involving Enoch, Elijah, Jesus Christ and John were all translations from Earth to Heaven. Whereas, the rapture of the church is a catching up to meet the Lord in the air, and to continue with Him for 1,000 years. The danger of the Pretribulation doctrine is that when Christians find themselves in the midst of the great tribulation (Rev. 12:17) some will think that they have been "left behind" and embrace the deception of the Antichrist, and be lost (Rev. 13:8)
