The book Behind the Media Curtain aspires to, partially, address the existing void in the academic publications dealing with the subjects of media manipulation, media literacy and human freedom, all of which are organically and inseparately entwined. Coming from the premise that "knowledge liberates" as well as provides the power for building and safeguarding one's identity and freedom "Scientia ipsa potentia est", the authors wanted to provide a detailed context which will help the academic, as well as the general audience, better understand the anatomy and the mechanics of the media manipulation we, as the mass audience, are exposed to, and offer a way of reclaiming the basic human freedoms, through the informed recognition of the processes at stake and often unrecognized possibility to refuse to remain passive absorbers, and "puppets", but rather critical participants of the democratic process, preserving the right and dignity to individually search for the truth, freedom and identity.
