Nepal does not have a long history of English language teaching and learning and so there is no long history of English teacher training. But there are many attempts and projects implemented for the training and development of English language teachers of different school levels, with a special focus on primary level school teacher training. Recently with the suggestions of many scholars in this area, MOE has started a new program for the training of the teachers of Nepal, namely Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program. This is an ambitious program in Nepal intending to not only training the teachers but also help the teachers become aware of their professional development. Unfortunately, the implementation of the program was not as productive as expected and it was not successful in changing and developing the practices of the teachers in the classroom practices. This book is about the policies, practices, and prospects of English teacher development in Nepal with specialreference to the TPD program implementation in Nepal. It aims to help policymakers become aware of the lapses in the policies and practices of teacher development and suggest ways to improve education.
