The survey methodology was largely quantitative, although some qualitative information was sought for reasons of non-enrolment, drop-out, and absenteeism of primary school children of the area. A sample 28.75% of the total was selected from Ambo and Dendi Woredas of West Shoa, bearing in mind the relative weightings. The sample was designed through stratified random sampling procedures with the stratification done at Woreda, gender and school level. A sub-sample was taken from each substratum, proportional to its size. The representative sample size of 23 schools (11 from Ambo and 12 from Dendi Woredas) was then calculated according to a specific margin of error and a level of confidence 95%.
