The study sought to assess the Performance Appraisal in the Ghana Education Service. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study using quantitative and qualitative methods. The study population were teachers and education managers selected using systematic sampling procedure and interview using structured questionnaire and interview guide.Majority of the respondents perceived the performance appraisal as satisfactory and effective in improving teaching and learning in Ghana Education Service. They also identified challenges in the implementation of the performance appraisal but said there are best practices in the performance appraisal. The study concluded that the current performance appraisal is perceived as satisfactory and effective; however there are certain aspects that will need review. The study recommended that the Ghana Education Service review the performance the performance appraisal system to enable teachers to play more active role in the Performance Appraisalsystem.
