This book describes five years of research into the assessment of counseling communication skills. For a variety of students, e.g. psychology, medicine or law students, the acquisition of communication skills is considered to be important, because in their future occupations they have to interact in a professional way with others, e.g. clients, patients or defendants. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the effectiveness of the communication training programs offered to these students. And to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs it is necessary to assess the students' mastery in communication skills. In this book the Counseling Communication Skills Progress Test (CSPT) is introduced. The CSPT is a video test aiming to assess mastery in counseling communication skills. I think this book is of interest to all those engaged in training communication skills and trying to make their communication skills courses as effective as possible. This book may also be of interest for students following a communication skills training program, giving insight the 'machinery' of communication skills training.
